I should know this. I've been around a few years now, but I never learned what a Hot Race is or their purpose.
Could someone explain this to me please, and feel free to heap scorn on me.

They are races that you can buy that run pretty much straight away. I think they're restricted to Maiden/Allowances. People use them to test surfaces for new 2yo's or in the chat they'll usually run a 2yo race for some fun/ or to get a quick idea of how good a newly bred horse is. Others use them quite a lot to make BPs even though you make less than a normal race. I don't like how they count towards a horses actual race record but I can see how they bring in income for the game. I think they should've been implemented as works/ trials for horses that don't count as an official race. So you could use them to trial new 2yos or when you ship a horse overseas for a G1, you could use them as a work to get them acclimatised to the new track/ conditions. Something that is real life relevant. As opposed to now where if you do that it looks a bit dumb that a G1 quality horse is running in a 5 horse allowance against trash cpu horses, which goes on it's offical record.

Thanks! I'll continue to ignore them. I do see them on a horse's list of races but have usually discounted them as not real racing.

Also embarrassing--how do we link horses from the game here? If you go to your All Horses link in the sim, right click on the Blue Arrow to the right of the horse name you can copy the link to that horse. Then you can use the 'Create Link' button when you are composing your post here. You paste the URL in and then you can also add the name.
