OK, so my stable is pretty crappy. 2 winners and 8 placings from 70 runners. I have sent a few (14) to the paddock until November. Currently have 24 in work, and the reality is that they are very limited in ability. I am seriously considering emptying the stable and starting over again.

I would buy credits breed a heap of cheap claimers run them every 2 weeks in claiming races and then use the BPs for breeding
If u don’t want to buy credits just claim a heap of cheap claimers and do the same thing
Only way to get good horses is to have a heap of stables where u get a good flow of BPs for breeding or spend a heap and get credits

I made a bid for a Stallion share. Just wondering how long it takes before I get a result.

Hey Glenmore... took a look at your stables and had a few thoughts. 3away is right. Running claimers is lucrative and allows you to breed better and better horses. If you don't want to use credits then I would suggest looking at the auction. I have done well there. I looked over some of your purchases and would recommend looking for horses with their conditions still available. You seem to like the hard knockers. Your 2yos look decent but dont be affraid to drop them in claimers and/or local races. Your Ryze Bankrupt looks like a good BP earner in State Bred races. If you are looking to pick up some 2yos I would look at the 6250 MCLs where people are throwing 1sters with good backends. Take a flyer on a few. I sent you over a 2yo to help get you over the hump. Hopefully will be a decent Bp maker. As far as the bid... the bid stays active until you deactivate or until the Share hits your bid. Good luck!

I definitely back the Maiden Claimer way of making BPs. They pay ridiculously high for what they are (50 for a win, 40 for second, 30 for third) You could skim through the upcoming races for the next few days and blindly claim a few unraced favourites with claim tags under 7.5k (look for 2yos bred by 'xmonster' or 'givenmadness' as they usually have solid DS and DDS) and then run them back in the smallest MCL fields you can find and start racking up some BPs. The auction is a good spot if you sort it by number of races and look through all 2yos that have had just one race. Look for some that debuted at 5-6f and ran mid 60s but were closing in the stretch. Make sure you don't pay over 15-20k as you'll restrict the races you can enter if you pay too much (you can't enter a horse in a claim with a tag less than what you paid) and then run them back at 7-8f and quite often they'll enjoy the extra distance and you'll pick up a win/ solid place and BPs. If you are thinking of using some credits I would buy some cheap sires (a lot of good international sires are undervalued in the game) look for multiple G1 winners in real life that are less than 100 credits (there are lots of Japanese sires like this). Then wait till the last few weeks of the year and breed to some of the mares that are open to everyone(Breeding->FindMares->AllMares). Find the best Giant's Causeway/ Galileo/ A.P. Indy/ Storm Cat/ Sadler's Wells mares that are left (ran speeds over 100 and/ or has some decent progeny) and you'll find combining them a cheap sire can quite often lead to a very fast horse. Junglano and Towerfall are examples of horses bred that way. 10 credits for the sire and I think the mares get down to sub 300 in the last week. There's always some decent one's left.

Also, what are people's thoughts about jockey tactics?

For me 99% of the time i leave it on Jockey Select. I only change it in specific circumstances such as when a horse insists on leading but always gets done in the stretch. I will then force them back at the start to see if it helps. Rather than focus on telling the jockey what to do I focus on getting as many of the good ones on the payroll and ranked accordingly to maximise the chance of getting one with a decent winning percentage.

I agree with Astin. Always use jockey select. Seems like every time I mess with the settings they tank.

Another question. If you have a stallion that has been fairly successful, can you retire him to stud, and use him like you would a game bred mare?

You can use him to breed like a mare 1 time. The cost depends on how well he did on the track. I believe it is 200 if he won a stakes, 400 if he is just an allowance winner, 600 if only a maiden win. I personally only breed he-mares if they are regally bred and good on the track. I usually breed all stakes winners with varying success.

Question about spacing between races. Should I wait 2, 3, or 4 weeks between races? Or should I just nominate when a razor blade shows up beside a horse's name?

Spacing depends on a lot of things. General rule, I want to give all of my horses at least a month between races to show their best. 2yos probably need a little longer 6-8 weeks. The better horses usually 5-8 weeks unless a juicy spot is open. My claimers anywhere between 2 to 5 weeks.

Most horsies get the razor blade icon automatically 7/14 days after their last race ,,,,this is whats known as a "false sharp" and they tend to underperform with such a short rest. 4ish weeks between races, as the guys have stated above, is the norm.
Ive sent a little one over to help you get started...
Good luck!

Very confusing weekend. Actually had a winner, a second, and a third--totally uncharted territory
