CHEF ROBUCHON I usually can adjust to a ponies style, this one has me a bit. Would like to hear what other people here would do if owned. Shorten up, go longer, drop class, yes I know change surfaces, but what would you do? Thanks all for suggestions, as he has me slightly baffled. (or miffed for the damn floating Euro's).

To tell the truth i wouldnt change much at all. I would be keeipng him at 8 - 8.5 furlongs, early speed turned up to 100 and be looking at the same graded class he has been running in. Would I change sufaces? No chance has turf written all over it.

Tyvm bud..I was hoping for a more dramatic answer mybe, but I thought i was doing ok by him; maybe drop the level again for a few races and see what doing.
BTW, I always remember Tees commenting a long time back (guess why was in my head originally) as he said something like "stretch him? or keep him at 8-9 I think?)
Anyways, thanks Pogs; as I don't want to be held self responsible for a horse that had world class talent and I was missing what he was asking for. Thanks bud.

If I were you I would ship him to a new trainer named bbaffert. He would be more than willing to figure out the problem for you. He has these injections he gives his horses before the races.....
Ok, seriously, great job. I am sure you see that every single race he has ever run he has faded in the stretch, no matter the distance. At 8F he loses about 2-3, longer he loses 4-5. If he were my horse, I would try a 6 to 7 furlong race in G2 or G3 and see what happens. You cannot hurt him with the shorter distance and at least you learn something about him. The other option is to attempt to find a Graded race with little early speed at 9.5 furlongs or longer and try that. This option is only an attempt to get a victory though, the first thought is an attempt to make sure he does not run better just a tad bit shorter. The results will tell you 100% what step to take next and the questions will be answered.
Again, great job and since you have him lightly races he should be solid for some time.

Thanks Mike for the in depth answer! I always thought so too.
But one thing I learned from Master Jacklad was this. Long ago, I always would say that speed front runners would die at the 1/8th pole. He seemed to go longer with better success. Why I realize now that distance and speed aren't interchangeable on paper.
I was thinking just "let the boy fly at 7f; but he may be out footed early which throws him into a weird, "bad" space.
Like your advice, and thank you as I may decide to see what he's got doing that.
Some may say go even longer. Or like Pogs, keep...Gonna fire one day.
Thanks again..Boys got me in a pickle

Geez, nice horse. His races up until that 56 breakdown show start speeds of 78-100 ( SSS ). I doubt setting him at 3 or 4 would help him as he's dueling the best in the sim. I'd try a setting of 5 or 6, close enough to the front hopefully without the burnout. No guarantees but worth a shot as it hasn't been tried up until that point. Good luck.

This is so very interesting to me. I am gonna bookmark him. I have to see how it works out. I think you really can do no wrong with this horse. The same, shorter, longer. He is going to get some graded race wins just based on the way you have handled him. I said shorter just because that is the only thing you really have not tested. He is lightly raced, rested right, he is going to make you proud whatever you do.

Thanks guys for the replies.
BTW, he's always been set at jockey select. I think I wanna burn him 1 time at like 100% at 7f. Dunno, but come catch me. May try sprint 1st stakes as his "layoff" and then see what happens.
Then I'll be doubly confused, but thanks for the suggestions gang. I'll keep ya posted.

i like him at 8.5 9 next start sometimes these front runners can be tricky to place he may just blow them away over a tad extra ground
