Not sure if anyone has watched the twitch Q&A with Francua but I found it informative. The biggest take away for me was the jockey settings. I have always thought the settings just influenced pace... go watch if you haven't... some interesting revelations. No sign up needed to view the replay. Derbyfever Twitch

Frank is doing an excellent job of disseminating information not previously known. He gives a good horse overview in written form on the message board under the stickied "Horse Guide"

Never mentioned rest times. At present i set my 2yo's for 6 weeks rest irrespective of how they come back. 3yo's i set for 4 weeks rest if rtg for and 5 weeks if a lil groggy cut a week of both laater in year. 4yo+ i set for 3 weeks if rtg and 4 weeks if a lil groggy.
Would like to know if i'm giving my horses enough rest?

The impression I got was the longer the better. I think he mentions 5 weeks as a rough guide for older horses. Each horse is slightly different though. Some really good horses can power through a certain amount of wear and tear. But burning through too many starts of a Frankel x Deep Impact 2yo that should peak somewhere in it's 4th to 6th year (and want longer ground) is a bad idea as you would be eating into it's peak form period of races. You'd be better farming or spacing out the races drastically 8/10+ weeks for the initial part of it's 2yo/3yo career until suitable longer races are available. He also mentioned no horse is programmed to peak at 2. So the 2yos that never get better are most likely burnt out.
What was the jockey settings info? That you need to try to find what the horse wants to run best at? How do you know that? I didn't think we were able to see the starting speeds anywhere? I think the pace being a factor is definitely something to look for in big races. There was a G1 a few weeks ago where all the best horses wanted the lead and they all ran pretty poorly, beaten by an average swooper and I thought that I should've tried to swoop rather than just let the jockey futiley chase the lead with the other 4 or 5 favourites.

If I am remembering correctly he said that the optimum rest was 5 to 8 weeks for 2yos... and 4 to 5 for older...
For me peaking is an interesting concept... is the peak the highest speed figure your horse runs? Starting at 2 we know horses speed figures improve as the year moves forward. Usually, early 2yo MSW races are won with a mid to high 60's speed figure... later in the year you need to run at least in the high 70s to win the very same race. Did your horse improve if all of your competition improved? The older your horse gets, the more likely they will face a horse that is "peaking".
As far as the jockey settings... I always though jockey settings are there for you to adjust the placing of your horse pace wise. I thought pace mattered so placing your horse just right based on pace would make them more likely to run well. It was confirmed in the video that horses like to run a certain way. If you have them set for that specific trip, they become in sync with the jockey/trainer and will run better or more to their talent.
Supposedly their is to be another Twitch Video tomorrow with Q/A at the end. Encourage anyone to join... as hopefully some more of the behind the scenes are revealed.

ah okay I sort of learnt the opposite to you guys haha. I already new/assumed a horse had a sweet spot and I choose as many good jockeys as needed to make it likely they will hit that sweet spot. If i knew the start speeds I would be interested in tinkering to find the perfect number but at this point I haven't seen a noticable advantage of telling a jockey to go to the front as opposed to him naturally doing it anyway on Jockey select. what I learnt was Mike confirmed pace does matter and so does post position so insisting on things like letting a jockey try and force the pace from the 14 post is a bad idea and you should force a change to potentially closing late, despite it not being your horses optimal running style.

This is what I got from it and what I am doing now
REST: 2yos was resting 5 1/2 weeks, now 7 weeks 3yos was resting 5 1/2 weeks , Now 6 weeks 4+ yos was resting 5 1/2 weeks, now 5 weeks this should cut down on the wear and tear and horses should last longer and run truer to form.
Maturity: No horse will mature at 2yo horses will mature between 3 to 5 yo a horse runs its best when mature and there is no telling how long it will last. you can tell when a horse matures when their sp # go up out of nowhere BUT!! if you over ran before it matures it might not help the horses performance If you have a well bred horse 2 or 3 yo, who is not running like they should it is better to stable them for a while then keep running them
Jockey select: On the Jockey select slider button there are numbers for each position 0 to 100, Every horse has a magic number where they run best If you use just jockey select the jockey will pick the number so the better jockeys pick better numbers or closer to the magic number (but may still be off) If you use the slider and either hit the magic # or are close the horse will run at its top performance and if you have a good Jockey on them its even Better
Choosing the number on the Jockey slider: This gets tricky !!!! Each horse is different, a 60 on the slider for horse "A" may mean 1 length in the lead but to Horse "B" a 60 may mean 2 lengths behind the leader I have been using the slider for 3 days now with great results and a few failures What Astin said is right (letting a jockey try and force the pace from the 14 post is a bad idea and you should force a change to potentially closing late, despite it not being your horses optimal running style.)
What I have been doing : I have been going back through their (horses) past performances, If they are coming out up to 2 lengths behind or in the lead I choose 60 to 70 and then review after the race, 4 to 5 lengths back I have been going with 40 to 50 and anything slower then that 30 to 40 when I go back through their past performances I also choose their best races over their worse to make my dissension.
This may take a few months to get straighten out. But so far I like what I have seen, Had a horse today that never showed me anything used the slider and midway was running 5th then pow took off like a rocket and won by two lengths
GOOD LUCK !!!

If you rest your 2 yo for 7-8 weeks between races the W&T will be miniable, Race like 5 to 7 times a year and Then if you have a 2 yo good enough to run in the TC THEN DO IT !!!! In RL good 2 yos run 3 to 6 times by that number of races a trainer can tell if they have a shot at the TC when they turn 3.
Zenyatta didn't race till she was 4 yo.
Flightline in his late 3 yo season
SEA BISKET lost his first 14 races
Cigar did not race as a two-year-old, he won twice in nine starts at age three, IN HIS 4 YO SEASON he was two wins from six starts, in his 5 yo season he went crazy scoring ten wins from ten starts all graded finishing up that year winning Breeders' Cup Classic, Cigar's six-year-old campaign started on a high note, with wins in the Donn Handicap and the newly created Dubai World Cup making him the world's richest racehorse. He then extended his winning streak to 16, matching the great Citation, before he was finally defeated i
So you never know? makes me wonder how many great horses I deleted in sim before they hit maturity
